Pastoral Care Co-ordinator

Reporting to:                      Inclusion Manager

Hours:                                   37.5 per week

East London Independent School is a special school for pupils aged 7-19 years for pupils with ASC or Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs result in challenging behaviour. Their behaviour has led to them needing an alternative education placement to their mainstream, community school.

The pupils have special needs which are often complex with a mixture of diagnosed and undiagnosed co-morbid difficulties. Many are “looked after” but all need to enjoy a safe and supportive environment where they receive a healthy balance of pastoral support and access to an academic curriculum.  The school provides a broad curriculum that introduces each pupil to a wide range of concepts, experiences, knowledge and skills and promotes social, moral, spiritual, cultural, intellectual and physical development.

Summary of post

The post holder will work with all pupils but hold a specific complex caseload to: co-ordinate and complete multi-disciplinary assessments, undertake family work where required, work individually with some pupils, co-ordinate with Social Care and oversee induction of new pupils.

The post holder, under the guidance of the Inclusion Manager, has responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the Inclusion Model in school (Group Focus, Focused Assemblies, Nurture, and Relationship Mentoring) to facilitate a cohesive, nurturing and productive learning environment for pupils.
